109. The Torso Killer and Haunted 12 Gay Street in New York

Summary

Mom and daughter take a visit to New York City in their stories this week.  Bettina begins with some scary history of 42nd street, “The Deuce”, in the city.  With “peep shows”, sex shows, sex work, and high crime, a serial killer walked free… The Torso Killer- Richard Cottingham.  His exact number of killings is unknown, but is believed to be in the hundreds.  Beth lightens things up with some “Who’s”?  Well, that was a mistake, but she does chat about Howdy Doody!  12 Gay street has been a private residence, a speakeasy, a puppet theatre and puppet workshop…lots of history with lots of interesting haunts!
