In episode 139 Bettina chose to cover a story from Kansas – Beth decided to cover the paranormal portion more fitting with the “holiday”!

Bettina covers the horrible true crime… the murder of Kelsey Smith, in Overland Park, Kansas. On a normal outing, something you and I do all the time without thinking twice, something so mundane – a trip to Target – Kelsey was targeted, trolled, taken, and killed. Her life mattered – and we urge all of our listeners to be vigilant in their surroundings no matter where you are when you’re out and about.

Upon looking for “4th of July Hauntings” Beth discovered some haunts she thought would be fun to share… from some “founding Mothers” of our country! A charming ghost who likes to party, screams from basements of tragedies past, seances in the White House, and much more! Cheers!

It was Saturday, June 2, 2007 in Overland Park, KS. 18 year old Kelsey Smith, who had graduated from High School 9 days prior, was making a fast run to Target. Kelsey Smith who’s life lay before her like an open book. She had been accepted to attend Kansas State University, where she was heading to in Aug. She was excited about studying Veterinarian medicine and playing her clarinet in the K-State Marching Band. But all this was not to be because her trip to Target that night brought her face to face with a killer.

What do Abigail Adams, Sara Henry, Betsy Ross, Dolly Madison and Mary Todd Lincoln have in common? I’ll give you a hint….they are all a bit transparent now. Beth does a great job in telling listeners not only the history, but all so about how these ladies are still “hanging around”. What’s keeping them tethered to this world? We don’t have answers to that, but we sure did share a few laughs as we dove into the question.

At the time of Kelsey’s death cell phone companies were not obligated to ping the location of a victim’s cell phone to aid police in finding the victim. After Kelsey’s death Greg and Missey Smith, Kelsey’s parents, pushed for legislation that will enable law enforcement to find the location of a person who is endangered or missing.
