We covered, in episode 3, the horrible 1970’s deaths of Colette, Kimberly and Kristin McDonald by the hand of their husband/father, Jeffery McDonald, in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Beth brings us back to Ft. Bragg with another family murder that happened 15 years after the McDonald murders. The Eastburn family, Gary, who was in the Air Force, his wife Katie, and daughters, 5 year old Kara, 3 year old Erin and Jana just under 2 years old. Gary was away at training in Alabama on the fateful afternoon of May 11, 1985. The following day the bodies of Katie, Kara and Erin were found in the home having been brutally killed, with little Jana alive but suffering from dehydration. Beth takes us through the case and through the trials. Army Sergeant Timothy Hennis was found guilty not once, but twice. It took 25 years to finally put the murderer behind bars once and for all. Lots of twists and turns in this episode with one of the most important leads being the Eastburn’s English Setter, Dixie, and… the black Member’s Only jacket.
Bettina takes us to Bear Creek, North Carolina and the Devil’s Tramping Ground. An odd 40 ft barren circle in which nothing can grow. A circle in which nothing has grown for centuries! So there has to be a reasonable explanation for this strange area, and there are several, one being that this is where the Devil walks around at night making plans to trap souls and cause the ruination of humans, thus the name, The Devil’s Tramping Ground. (That’s pretty reasonable, right?) And if that’s not enough Bettina shares the story of The Devil’s Track, found near Hendersonville, North Carolina. This is what looks like a very large left foot print pressed into a large rock. But the story doesn’t end there, because the Devil’s right foot print can be found pressed into Flat Rock in South Carolina! Listen as Bettina shares this humorous legend explaining the two foot prints.
